Commissions

I am always happy to discuss painting/drawing commissions, and over the years have completed several figurative renditions of people. These are not conventional portraits where the likeness is paramount, but my own interpretation of the person, incorporating their own ‘artefacts’, representing their life and interests through screenprinted layering.

My latest commission was a portrait of a young woman who loves the sea – I have depicted her in front of a swirling background of splatters and watery elements.

Other recent portraits have featured the subject/s in front of a full moon – this can mean different things to different people but in these particular pieces I was thinking about intuition, phases of life, inner and outer worlds, cycles and sisterhood.

“Sophie made the whole process of getting a commissioned painting an absolute delight for my daughter and myself! She made us feel so welcome and relaxed in her studio and her communication with us about what we wanted was excellent!” Nikki Gordon

In 2016 I worked with novelist Sara Sheridan to create a portrait that reflected her interest in identity, after finding out about her DNA. The process was made into a photo essay and featured in the Guardian online in 2016. You can read about it here.
